   Hortatory Exposition Text is a type of text that aims to persuade or advise the audience about a particular idea or action.


  • Structure Hortatory Exposition Text

1. Introduction

       Introduces the topic or problem to be discussed. This Intoduction aims to grab the attention of the reader or listener and make them interested in continuing to read or listen to the text.

2. Body

       Body is a part to explain or explain clearly and in detail the writing or content that will be conveyed.

3. Argument

       Presents arguments that support the author's statement of opinion, and why certain actions should be taken. (If an argument is pro then the other arguments must also be pro. And vice verso, if the argument is contra then the other argument must also be contra).

3. Supporting Detail

       Presents reasons or supporting evidence to strengthen the argument.

4. Conclusion

       Invites the reader to take action or change their attitude in accordance with the opinion that has been conveyed.


  • Language Features

1. Use the simple present tense, as this text presents an opinion that is not bound by time references. 

2. Presenting arguments, so there are conjunctions such as firstly, secondly, futhermore, in addtion, etc.

3. Use evaluatve words such as important, valuable, etc.

4. Using passive voice or passive sentences.

 

a. If, then 

Examples : If John doesn't study, then his grades will drop. 

b. If and only if 

Examples: If and only if Ronald passes the pre exam, will he get selected. 

c. Unless 

Examples: Unless I'm mistaken. There are around 270 million people in Indonesia.

6. Abstract nouns refer to ideas, feelings, emotions, states, actions, concepts, experiences, and qualities that we cannot see, taste, touch, smell, or hear. Here are some examples of abstract nouns: honesty, intelligence, bravery. Names of subjects are abstract nouns, for example: science, chemistry, geography. 

7. Technical term is a word, phrase, or acronym that professionals or experts use in their specific field to help save time when communicating with other knowledgeable professionals. There are some technical terms in technology such as malware and phishing.
